Job Description:
The Legal Assistant is responsible for assisting the research of legal precedent, investigating facts and preparing legal documents. The Legal Assistant will also perform administrative duties as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Draft, revise and finalize legal documents
- Transcribe attorneys' dictation
- Coordinate communications (both verbal and electronic), meetings, conference calls and travel arrangements for attorney
- Assist with the development of administrative systems and processes
- Respond to internal and external customers inquiries in person, by e-mail and by phone
- Maintain confidentiality of matters and issues
- Review cases, redline documents and coordinate information
- Perform legal research (including online searches); maintain databases
- Compose, edit and proofread correspondences
- Prepare motions, set despositions, prepare filings in state and federal courts, prepare bills, maintain files, schedule appointments and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree and/or equivalent work experience
- Exceptional written communication skills, including strong spelling and grammar
- Strong computer and Internet application skills
- Must have competence with basic financial data, databases and word processing software
- Customer service / client service experience
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Must be reliable, flexible and detail-oriented
- Ability to handle multiple assignments within specified time frames
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a strong ability to review legal documents and support numerous legal matters
- Ability and willingness to take initiative to address problems and make continuous process improvements
- Tact and discretion in dealing with confidential matters
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively.
